I love riding my bike. I enjoy the rush you get when riding really fast, the smell of the flowers and trees in the wind; even the soreness and exhaustion I get after a good, long bike-ride-workout.
This last Wednesday, June 25th, 2014 was Bike to Work Day (BTWD). My friend, Julie, and I decided we would ride our bikes to Union Station in Denver, and take the bus up to where we work in Boulder, CO. Although it meant waking up a bit earlier than usual and making sure we go to the bus on time, it was a fun change in my daily routine. Biking through Denver early in the morning was beautiful and refreshing and it was nice not having to sit in traffic for an hour, like I do everyday. Once at work, there was a raffle for some cool bike gear, free lunch for those who rode their bikes, and other little prizes and treats.
After the workday was finished, Julie, our friend Dara, and I took the bus back to Denver and rode over to the 6th Annual Bike From Work Bash hosted by Cactus, an advertising agency in Denver. They had several blocks blocked off with live music, raffles, food trucks, and O'Dell Brewing Co. beers. It was really cool seeing all the many cyclists with their bikes and everyone coming out for a good cause.
This was my first time participating in Bike To Work Day, and I definitely look forward to it next year. :)
